‘Greening’ Urban America
The green building movement plays a crucial role in creating a sustainable and healthy environment. While the benefits of creating and using green buildings are numerous, environmentally responsible construction is the exception rather than the rule.

PARTNERING – IS IT TIME TO PUT IT ON THE SHELF?
It has been 20 years since a task force for the Construction Industry Institute (CII) developed
the method of construction project team-building called “partnering.” Vogues in management come and go; since 20 years certainly exceeds their normal lifetime it seems worthwhile to ask the question, “Is it time to put partnering on the shelf?”

California’s High Speed Rail Still on Track
Back in November 2008, California voters gave a green light to the nation’s first high speed rail system, approving a $9.95 billion bond to fund trains covering 800 miles at an astounding velocity of up to 220 mph between major metropolitan areas. California’s effort has been 14 years in development, since it was first recommended by a Commission back in 1994.

Construction Manager in the Spotlight: Wendy Kaszycki, CCM
“I actually became aware of the CCM certification through our Client, the Los Angeles Unified School District. LAUSD encouraged both its employees and contract professionals to seek the certification. Although I am a PE, I feel that the CCM designation shows that I have had the responsibility and experience in all aspects of construction management.
