The New Paradigm in Construction...no longer is it simply Cost, Quality and Budget
The Green Paradigm: The old paradigm of construction balanced costs, schedule and
quality. This paradigm was often depicted as a triangle or a pyramid with cost at the top
of the pyramid supported by schedule and quality at the base.

P6 Tricks of the Trade
I must admit that using the current version of P3 for the last, oh, 15 years, had made me reluctant to
try the new versions released by Primavera (now an Oracle company), especially because of well
documented early problems with schedule dates calculation and that the new mix of features offered
by the various P3e/c, P5,etc. did not match the ones offered in P3.

Project Suspension – What Owner’s & Contractors Need to Know – Now!
At the end of 2008, the American public was faced with what previously had seemed like an
impossibility – Lehman Brothers Holdings, Inc. filed for bankruptcy. Just a few days later, contractors
working on the construction of a Ritz Carlton Hotel and Spa in Rancho Mirage, like so many others,
received more bad news.

California Court of Appeals Gives Guidance to Construction Managers
Finally, the courts have given construction managers the guidance they needed
regarding their contractor licensing responsibilities.

New Caltrans Race Conscious DBE Program
Since May 2006, in response to a Ninth Circuit appellate court decision, Caltrans utilized a Race
Neutral methodology with regard to its Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Program for
federal aid transportation (DOT) projects and required local agencies to agree to implement
Caltrans’ DBE program (which eliminated the long-standing use of contract goals and good faith
efforts)

CCM Committee Highlights
Your 2009 CCM Committee continues to find opportunities to serve the membership this year, and is looking for a venue for a Certified Construction Manager Standards of Practice course to be held September of 2009. As part of our arrangement with CMAA National, a certification test will be offered within one week of this course, so this is a great time to get certified.
